OCTOBER 19-25, 2008 DECLARED NATIONAL SAVE FOR RETIREMENT WEEK
On June 26, 2008 Congress passed H.Res. 1294 Sponsored by Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz (D-PA) and Congressman Sam Johnson (R-TX). Both Representatives mentioned EBRI research in their floor speeches.
EBRI and ASEC support National Save for Retirement Week October 19-25, 2008 and will work to promote the ideals behind the Week.

June 26, 2008 ASEC Chairman Dallas Salisbury testified before the House Ways and Means Committee, Selected Revenue Measures Subcommittee during the Subcommittee's hearing, The Role of Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) in the U.S. Retirement System. Dallas testified on the topic, IRAs in the American Retirement System. June 24, 2008 ASEC Chairman Dallas Saisbury testified before the House Ways and Means Committee, Subcommittee on Social Security during the Subcommittee's hearing, Protecting Social Security Beneficiaries from Predatory Lending and Other Harmful Financial Institutional Practices. Dallas testified on the topic, "Financial Literacy and Financial Education". June 17, 2008 Savingsman won a local emmy in the following category: Jon Sullivan -- Producer Single Spot for Episode #6 "Mr. Unexpected" Congratulations Jon!! Savingsman has won 6 awards, 2 national and 4 local awards. The winners were announced at the 50th Anniversary ceremony on June 14, 2008. June 16, 2008 ASEC has released an update on the Chairman's Report for Mid-Year 2008 reporting on ASEC's activities. June 3, 2008 Health care expenses in retirement are a major concern for Americans. According to the 2008 Retirement Confidence Survey, 44 percent of retirees say they spend more on health care in retirement than they expected. New computer simulation analysis by the nonpartisan Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI) provides the most realistic estimates yet conducted of how much savings are needed to cover health expenses in retirement, taking into account such major factors as gender, marital status, age, and whether your former employer provides any help with retiree health insurance.Retiree Health Savings: How Much Is Enough? American Savings Education Council (ASEC) and America Saves have joined forces to broaden the coalition that supports AmericaSavesWeek.org and take initiatives to make EVERY week America Saves Week.
